The Miltenberg-Obernburg Vocational School hosted a ceremony to mark the end of a unique and enriching exchange program. This initiative saw a cultural and educational exchange between Carpentry students from Germany and Ghana.
The journey began in June when five Carpentry students from Miltenberg-Obernburg visited the Abor Senior High School (Aborsco) in the Volta Region of Ghana. Their visit was reciprocated in July when five young Carpenters from Ghana visited Germany. These talented Carpenters had previously demonstrated their skills by winning a Carpentry competition in Ghana last October during the “German Days Celebration” in Ghana. This competition was organized by The Rising Lions (TRL) with the support of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK), BOSCH and EJOT.
The partnership for this exchange program was solidified with the involvement of the State Vocational School in Miltenberg-Obernburg, recognized for its excellence in vocational training.
According to Ms.Nadine Faber, the President and Founder of the The Rising Lions e.V., the exchange program aligns with the NGO’s motto, “each one, teach one,” which emphasizes how the program promotes knowledge exchange and mutual learning.
An engaging and entertaining review of the German group’s stay in Ghana was presented by the students and their teacher, Ms. Katrin Kempf, along with Ms. Anka Blick, a representative of The Rising Lions e.V. They shared their experiences and the insights they gained during their time in Ghana.
The Rising Lions-Ghana’s Director, Mr. Peter Attipoe, reiterated the value of inter-cultural exchanges. He emphasized that these kinds of initiatives give young people in Ghana fresh outlooks on life as well as chances for development on both a personal and professional level. In order to prevent young people from taking the risky trek over the Sahara in quest of a better life in Europe, he emphasized the necessity for them to have hope and chances for a better future. During their 10-day stay in Germany, the Ghanaian Carpenters visited several Carpentry companies, including Rauch Möbelwerke, Reinhold Keller GmbH, and Freiform. These visits provided them with a firsthand look at the advanced techniques and tools used in German carpentry. At the Vocational School, the Ghanaian team and their teachers were given an in-depth insight into the Vocational Training system in Germany.
